ithappenedonthisdate: Rest in Peace On 19 November 1967 Chaplain (Major) Charles Watters, died in the line of duty near Dak To, Vietnam. After being ordained as a Roman Catholic priest he joined the New Jersey National Guard, was activated, and sent to Vietnam in July 1966. Although his tour was only for one year he voluntarily chose to stay for an additional six months. During this time he was awarded the Air Medal and the Bronze Star for Valor. He was visiting a company when it was attacked. At great risk to himself he continuously moved behind and between the combating lines tending to the wounded and performing last rites. He was mortally wounded. For his action on 19 November 1967 he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.
